FAQ about Anonymizer's switch to a new set of IP's

What is an IP number?

An IP number is a number that computers on the internet use to locate each other. They are four sets of numbers ranging from 0 to 255 grouped together by periods. For example, 209.75.196.3 is an IP number.

Why does the Anonymizer need to change IP numbers?

Our previous backbone provider could not provide us with the bandwidth that we as a rapidly growing company needed. In order to get better bandwidth and provide you with better and faster service, we are switching our provider. They are the ones that issue us with the IP numbers that we use and since we are switching providers, we also need to switch our IP numbers.

Will this affect the surfing service?

    No.

Will this affect the SSH/SecureCRT accounts?

You may see an error messages saying that your connection is not in your known hosts lists. After you accept once, you should not see this error again. This should not affect your settings. All customers should have domain names in their settings and should not have any IP numbers in your setup configuration. Please see our ssh setup pages if you need the correct domain names.

Will this affect Dialup customers?

YES!!! In your dialup networking settings, you have our old IP numbers listed in your Domain Name Search Order settings. These numbers will need to be changed or you will be functionless on the internet. Your computer will still connect but you will not be able to surf, check email or news until this is changed. For Windows customers, you will need to change your Name Server Addresses in the TCP/IP Settings section of Server Types to "Server assigned name server addresses". For Mac customers, if your settings allow you to, then change to server assigned name server addresses. This should be the default setting for Connect Via PPP. For the locations of these settings and more information please see our dialup page. These changes may be done immediately.

Will this affect Publishing customers

No. This should not affect publishing customers. As long as you have given your associates https://www.anonymizerproxy.com/~(your username) or http://www.cyberpass.net/~(your username) as your address then you will not need to change or do anything.
