INFONEX APPLAUDS SUPREME COURT
Infonex applauds the decision of the Supreme Court to strike down the
Communications Decency Act (CDA), thereby affirming the right to free
speech on the Internet.
In the appellate decision, Judge Dalzell described the Internet as "the
most participatory form of mass speech yet developed". The CDA would have
chilled much of the legitimate speech on the Internet. The enforcement
of the unjust law would have seriously damaged our ability to facilitate
free speech. Infonex stands as a bastion between people with unpopular
or censored opinions and the governments and organizations which attempt
to silence them. Singapore is so threatened by free speech they have
blocked access to the Anonymizer from within their country.
In its decision, the Supreme Court stated that the CDA casts a shadow over
free speech and "threatens to torch a large segment of the Internet
community." The striking down of the CDA enables Infonex to continue
protecting the free speech of those living under repressive governments.
Thanks to the Court, ours is not one of them.
Infonex is the world's leading provider of Internet anonymity services.
To a worldwide customer base, Infonex provides anonymous e-mail and
newsgroup access, web publishing space, web browsing through the Anonymizer,
and tools for privacy and security. Infonex agrees to publish any site
which was censored and does not violate U.S. law, free, for three months.
Lance Cottrell began his career as an astronomer, but his involvement
in world-wide Internet privacy issues led him to author the Mixmaster
anonymous remailer, which allows freedom of speech without the
possibility of correlation to the speaker's identity. He founded
Infonex as a launch platform for ideas about the future.
