- Netscape JavaScript security issue
1999-03-26 - Netscape 4.5 (and possibly earlier versions) allow JavaScript code to be embedded inside HTML if the code is delimited with &{ and };. Although this has the potential to be a useful and versatile feature, and was apparently intended as such, it is implemented so broadly that it has the potential for widespread misuse.
- Update: Netscape disputes this article
1998-11-22 - Netscape has disputed this article and has recommended that people read their site for information regarding this issue. Their information on this topic is located at Netscapes Whats Related FAQ.
- Netscape Navigator 4.06 informs its server of your url.
1998-11-15 - The Whats Related function in version 4.06 of Netscape and newer appears to open a direct connection to www-rl.netscape.com, and informs that server of your current URL, so that it can provide you with other related URLs in the menu. You should disable this feature in Netscape Preferences if you do not want Netscape Inc. to be able to monitor and catalog the sites you read. This is not to suggest that this is their standard practice... only that they have the ability to do so if you use this feature. Anonymizer Surfing currently cannot protect you from this potential security risk.
