Time Warner system hacked
By Tom Diederich

A computer system that controls key broadcasting functions at several small and midsize TV stations operated by Time Warner Cable, Inc. in the Los Angeles area was broken into last weekend, but the hacker apparently didn't do any harm, and service to about 300,000 customers wasn't affected, a company official said today.

"It was a single incident in one of our midsize divisions," said Mike Luftman, vice president of corporate communications at the Stamford, Conn.-based firm. "It was simply an unauthorized entry, and we've dealt with the problem."

Because the computer system isn't linked with other Time Warner cable systems, he called it an isolated attack.
