IBM signs up Linuxcare

IBM has signed a deal with Linuxcare to provide technical support and training for Linux on IBM RS/6000 systems. Under the agreement, Linuxcare will offer IBM's RS/6000 customers, from systems administrators to help desk staff to end-users, four levels of on-call support. Linuxcare will also provide technical education courses for the RS/6000 program through its Linuxcare University. Linux is currently available on two of IBM's RS/6000 systems, the F50 and the Model 43P 150, and is expected to be available this October in a new rack-mounted thin server code-named Pizzazz.


Linux version of Oracle WebDB released

Oracle has released a Linux version of WebDB, its Web publishing tool. According to Oracle, the product helps cut IT costs by allowing employees to publish their own documents on the Web and update the content via a browser. WebDB for Linux is available now for free download at the Oracle Technology Network Web site.


Caldera signs deal with Hummingbird

Caldera Systems has entered into an agreement with Hummingbird Communications that will give Caldera's Linux-based users access to all of Hummingbird's desktop-client connectivity products. These products include Exceed, HostExplorer, and its NFS Maestro Server. Hummingbird officials believe the agreement bolsters its Linux strategy by potentially attracting the significantly increasing number of users interested in connecting to Linux-based servers.


Atipa releases Alpha Linux servers

Atipa Linux Solutions introduced a line of Alpha Linux servers geared toward running enterprise-level applications. The Alphaserver AT2000 runs either SuSE Linux 6.1 or Red Hat Linux 6.0 on a 667-MHz Alpha 21264 processor and can be configured with up to 2GB of RAM.


Clustering technology for Linux released

Alta Technology unveiled its Extreme Altatude campaign for Linux clustering. Alta's solutions, which support both Intel and Alpha-based servers, use Parallel Virtual Machine and Message Passing Interface technologies to help users create scalable, high-performance Linux systems capable of parallel processing.
