Top 20 Budget Desktops

The star this month is Micro Express's MicroFlex-PR/233. Powered by the AMD K6-PR233 processor, the $1899 MicroFlex shattered the budget desktop performance record. In fact, its PC WorldBench score of 246 is 7 points higher than the average for Top 20 power desktops. Five other PCs on the chart boast non-Intel CPUs. New this month, the $1649 CyberMax Power Max uses AMD's K6-PR166 and posted a solid 223 score on its way to a ninth-place finish. The new Micron Home MPC, meanwhile, uses a Pentium MMX-200 to gain Best Buy distinction, with a strong PC WorldBench score of 230. The polished minitower costs $2249 and comes well appointed with multimedia features.
