Blog Search
Google has finally released a long overdue Blog Search. I don't know about you, but I have been waiting for this feature for about a year now and am glad that it is finally here. Why do we need a blog search? Simple. Blogs are a quick way to get a feel for what people are thinking on any topic. Just type in your term and whammo! You get blog entry after blog entry from people like you and me spouting their opinions. Try it for yourself. Search for "ipod nano", the newest iPod, and see what people are saying. You'll get 17,840 blog entries of people talking about it.
Google is not the first engine to have a blog search. Before Google there were others who blazed the trail:
* Technorati (20,319 posts about ipod nano)
* Feedster (88,341 results)
* Daypop (834 results)
* Bloogz (140 results)
* BlogDigger (2,852)
* IceRocket (14,637)
I'm still not sure which blog search service is the best. I suspect I'll probably bounce between my previous favorites, Technorati (good, but often slow) and IceRocket, and I'll throw Google into the mix.

Ive been using the google search, it is a bit hard though because so many junk pages come up in the search.
Scuba, for example, comes up with thousands of pages, but many are just those horrible add pages.
Nice blog, keep it going!

This is great. It makes it easier to find other interesting blogs.
You might want to turn on the secret word feature on your comments, to prevent the comment-spam. That was happening with me, about 2 minutes after I blogged. Everytime!
I think Technorati is good, but looking forward to Google's version. I haven't tried it yet, to be honest. But Google is becoming a one-stop shop for my search needs.
In the comments, Secret Ice wondered about blogger pictures disappearing, and I had the same problem, but they're back. Who knows. It's blogger.
Can someone tell me how to turn that thing on? It could really help me...

I like blogger (google) but I wish they'd improve their commenting. Most other comment services allow the commenter's name to be a link to their own blog or webpage, but blogger only lets it be a link to their profile, so you have to search the profile for the blog, and the user doesn't have the option of putting a webpage instead.
#1 in Google was actually the information I was looking for when I found your blog. Blog Search is certainly a great topic Geoffrey Mack... Are you interested in trading links between our sites?
Your blog is interesting and informative. Keep up the good work.
Wow! That's really nice! Thanks for the tip!

Google will allways master the field of searching and force everyone who is cheap and doesnt want to do things like gmail set the mailbox to a gig and everyone got scard and put up there space!!

i too was waiting for the same feature .
Blog Search is pretty cool - puts you in touch with people who want to talk about a certain topic - I do find that it is kind of dated, so be sure to use the advanced search.
Enjoy Senior Week
one problem with blog search engines is that they rely mostly on RSS/Atom feeds, and these feeds start to become more and more a standard in online newspapers, search engines, or company Press releases sections. Therefore isolating blogs written by regular people from these automated feeds is becoming more and more a challenge.

Thanks so very much for the info. I was able to add my blog @ Hagrin.com to all the RSS Feed sites that you mentioned. Hopefully, as I am rebuilding my site, this will really help traffic levels. Thanks again!

Google keeps getting better and better..
Nice blog by the way..
I've got nothing to say. Even worse than that, I've got no one to say it to.
Nice work!
Keep blogging, keep writing, keep sharing!

nice blog, i must agree with everyone
What a wonderful blog site you have! Thanks for all the information you provide. I'll visit you often.
Very informative post. Thanks for sharing this great information with the rest of the world! Keep contributing, we're waiting for more.
Thanks for the list of blog searches.
Why not allow comments for all your blog entries? Scared?
By allowing comments for all your entries, it will align your blog with the community and will gain more attention.
Please do so.

You mean to tell me Google is making Blog Searching a distinct and separate web content search apart from web pages?
Yes, it makes sense... but does that mean that now blog content will be downgraded by Google, so that it can make its stand in the blog-only searches?
Just a thought. I ask because we map our URL's to our blogs, using TypePad as a Content Management System. It's elegant, clean, easy to modify, and I can have "guest editors" aka Employees and partners, doing some of the content entry.
Which is nice.
So http://www.prwebquickstart.com, which is really a blog but ACTING like a web site for our PRWeb.com training materials: does that also register in Google's natural search, or will it be eliminated (or downgraded) to provide more relevance in the Blog search?
How about www.richcontent.com? or www.richcontent-training.com?
I'll be interested in finding out, but thanks for the info... and the very relevant blog you've created here. Love the info, and tidbits such as the one above (Google Bombs) is phenomenal and informative, even for those of us in the know.
Thanks!
