Despite the fancy title of 'game developer' and my obvious love for games, I don't actually get to play a lot of them. Whether for lack of motivation, quality titles, the relevant platform or plain ol' time, I just don't play as many games as I would like.

The last game I completed was Half-Life 2, which would vouch for just how long ago its been since I truly indulged in a game.

Such is the price for growing up and tending both Rikke, my work and my various other productivity-related hobbies.

Well I've got a hunch I'm going to finish this one.

Though the above shot maybe cheating ever so slightly (when was the last time you saw a PS2 running 1024?), this game is stunning. And I mean stunning in every way I can think of.

In fact, I have no idea why you're reading this when you could be playing this. Don't have a PS2? Buy one! Don't have a TV?! Steal one! No matter your excuse, you cannot miss this game and still read this blog. I'm telling you!

Poor Uwe Boll, no one seems to like his movies...

Boll says the point is that his movies get better as his career progresses - Dungeon Siege is "ten times better" than BloodRayne, which is ten times better than House of the Dead, and so on.

The problem is, null times ten times ten times ten is still only null... Sorry Uwe.

"I think I made a perfect House of the Dead movie, because it really shows how the game is. It's a lot of fun, it's over-the-top action - it's not 28 Days Later, because the reality is that House of the Dead is about how it's a lot of fun to shoot zombies... It's cheesy entertainment with a lot of gore and a lot of violence, and it's super-fast."

As my pal Thor would say, Problem with House of the Dead is that there is no house of the dead! There is an island of the dead, and then a house of the sort of living...

Sega did nothing for House of the Dead, and Atari did nothing to support Alone in the Dark. They developed Alone in the Dark part 5, parallel to my movie, and then they closed the LA facility and never finished the game. And I was standing there alone in the rain with my movie...

Oh no...

"I won't say that I won't acquire another videogame licence in the future. But I'm not so eager to do it any more, to be honest. After Far Cry, maybe I'll go away from videogame-based movies. And everybody can be really happy about it."

Why do you tease Dr. Boll so?! What has he ever done to you!?

I think the guy who made Doom definitely saw Alone in the Dark.

Well that'd explain a thing or two...

You have to check out this visual mastery! Nuff said!

I've got a few little surprises up my sleeve, the next few weeks that'll make 2006 an even more fun year than 2005. But that's not what I'm going to write about just now.

Instead, I'm going to do a small contest of sorts. I've got a free domain registration and a one-year free hosting at Media Temple, the kickest assest hosting company in the world, to offer up as the price (The Media Temple hosting card is worth $95, and I'll even throw in a sheet of Media Temple stickers). Also you'll earn my eternal gratitude and the assurance that you will become filthy rich (no guarantee on the getting rich part).

What You Need To Do

A plugin for WordPress which can send a signal to Growl on a remote machine, like for instance my Mac mini, which I'm writing this on. This should happen on certain events, like for instance (and to the extend possible):

  • A user logs in (so if I'm the only user and someone else logs in, something is wrong).
  • A new user registers.
  • A new comments is posted.
  • An entry or page is published/edited.
  • A search is performed (hey some of us like control).

It should be possible to select the events which trigger the signal on an options page. And hey, if you're up for it, it'd be pretty dang cool if other plugins could tie into this plugin with new events.

You enter the competition by leave a comment in which you announce yourself a participant. You win the competition by providing me with a plugin, which fulfills the above guidelines and works for me when I set it up

If you're out there thinking you can't code this sucker, but you'd love to see it and you have something to offer as a price, let me know and I'll add it to the pool.

PS: I don't know if this is even possible, but it seems plausible to me so I'll go with it until someone lets me know I'm crazy.
