Dim: Dworkin for Congress
I wanted to put an American flag or Presidential Seal in the background of this picture, but I don't have photoshop at work. Drat.
First, I will note that another post from me will most likely be forthcoming later in the day, on another topic that is weighing heavily on my mind, but it might take a while and might not get posted anway.
At the moment though, I'd like to announce that the Democrats have sold us up the river.
24 Democrats and 1 Independent tried to filibuster the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito. 19 Democrats broke ranks and voted to end debate. One Democrat apparently did not vote at all.
I can't find a complete list of who voted for and who voted against, but I'm at work without a lot of time to hunt. I'm sure one of the bloggers out there has that list.
It just astounds me that nearly HALF of Democrats are actually Republicans in disguise. Or maybe they're just more blatant about their cowardice and misogyny than the other half. Who knows? The point is, this vote proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Kos and others who say supporting the Democrats is the woman's Road To Freedom And Liberation, are full of shit.
At best, half of the Democrats might care. The other half just make a token protest (or, like Byrd, Johnson, and Nelson (NE), make no protest at all and instead wave pom-poms) then back down and support whatever the Republicans want to do anyway.
Democrats, as a party, are NOT in any way concerned with women's rights any more than any other party is. "Vote the straight Dem ticket, or all your rights will vanish!" is a scare tactic and a threat. This morning, that threat turned out to be a hollow one anyway. Even supporting Democrats will leave women with only about half a government that might actually be able to pencil their "issues" in amongst the "more important" ones.
The Democrats no longer have my support as a party. I will never ever vote for any politician, regardless of party, who is not pro-choice and pro-woman. If such a candidate turns out to be a Republican, well, so be it. If such a candidate turns out to be Bertie the Yellow Dog from Austin, well, so be it.
I've been a Democrat my entire life, from the first ballot I ever cast. I even made a bet with BB, which I will now be paying on, that the Democrats would come to our rescue and filibuster until Republicans nuked them.
Democrats abandoned women yesterday. They spoke loud and clear: "You women are not important to us."
It's quite obvious, now more than ever, that we NEED Roe, because we obviously can't trust the Democrats to defend it. Ironically, we're now going to lose it because the Democrats wouldn't defend it. So what good will getting Roe overturned do for women, again? It'll get Democrats elected, but we can see exactly how much they care about women.
Right now, the Democrats have reached the point where their careers are more important than their jobs. They're too busy trying to read the polls like stock market reports than actually looking at the real people they're screwing around with and who will die and be damaged and have their lives destroyed. We have gone backwards in so many areas in such a short period of time, with regard to women's rights.
Women are pawns, and the Democrats have just sacrificed them. Uterus Chess trumps real lives and real suffering yet again.
I would love to organize a little protest movement. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone who would otherwise have voted Democrat if Democrats hadn’t abandoned the feminists, instead all voted for the same strange write-in candidate? I mean, if we just all go Nader, or the standard write-ins like Mickey Mouse or Darth Vader, the Democrats will see the midterm results and go “Pshaw! Those people would not have voted for us anyway!”. But if we all wrote in something like “Andrea Dworkin”, and publicized the campaign in some small way, at least then the Democrats would have an accurate count of some of the votes they lost.
Anyone else think that’s a good idea? Anyone have any candidate suggestions? I was thinking about e-mailing Twisty to see if she liked the idea and would donate her dog’s name to the cause, but maybe Andrea Dworkin would be a better symbol. Or would she be too divisive to get all the feminists who are in the same boat on board?
It’s probably just a pipe dream anyway. But with the midterm elections less than a year away, my mind won’t stop flitting back to it.
One thing is for sure, though. Those of us who feel disenfranchised and abandoned MUST vote. If we sit down and refuse to vote, then we can just be dismissed as one of a myriad of "issues" causing "low voter turnout". We just weren't "galvinized" enough, as opposed to actively abandoned. Throwing our votes away, rather than just letting them rot, sends a much better message. It says "We voted, we took the time to stand in line and vote for this throaway candidate who is not you. You cannot say that we wouldn't have voted no matter what, because we did vote. We could have just as easily voted for you, but we did not because you do not care about us or represent us. If you HAD done so, well, we were in that booth already. We might have thought about voting for you. Remember that in two years."
Anyone else have any ideas on what we can do to send a message? I want to send all the messages it's possible to send.
