Launching
the Anti-Spyware Scanner
Anonymizer Anti-Spyware Scanner is
an ActiveX-based scanner that runs right from this
Web site, quickly downloading two small components
to your computer.
When you first use the Anti-Spyware Scanner, you
will see a Microsoft "Security Warning" window
like the one to the right (if you are using Windows
XP Service Pack 2 or higher, your warning will appear
in a toolbar on the top of your browser window).
This simply notifies you that the Anti-Spyware Scanner
is a "signed" or "certified" ActiveX application.
Basically, this means you can trust it to behave
properly on your PC.
Simply click "Yes" to download the Anti-Spyware
Scanner components needed to run the scanner.
It may take up to several minutes to complete this
download, depending on your connection speed. (Anti-Spyware
Scanner is compatible with Internet Explorer browsers
only.)
The ActiveX controls we use are digitally signed
by Anonymizer. It will only perform setup
or installation when you specifically permit it.
If you wish, you can manually remove the ActiveX
control components after the Anti-Spyware Scanner
has completed its activities.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Is Anti-Spyware Scanner safe to use?
Running Anti-Spyware Scanner will not damage alter,
remove files or damage your PC. It was designed
to simply and safely check your PC for unwanted
software, and report the results to you.
Why is Anti-Spyware Scanner only available
to Internet Explorer users?
Anti-Spyware Scanner uses ActiveX controls to
download to your PC and perform the scan. Currently,
Netscape and other browsers do not support ActiveX
controls.
Can I remove the ActiveX components
from my PC when I'm done?
Yes. The Anti-Spyware Scanner file is saved to
your “Downloaded Program Files” folder
on your C: drive. In that folder, locate “Web
SpyWareKiller Class” and simply delete it.
How did spyware get onto my PC?
There are a number of ways unwanted software
can get onto your computer without your knowledge
or permission. You may have downloaded free software,
visited Web sites that actively track visitors,
used peer-to-peer software, or opened emails from
people you don't know, particularly if they have
attachments or embedded links. These programs
could contain code that allows the makers of this
software to collect and disseminate information
about you.
What kind of damage can spyware do?
These surveillance programs can track
your surfing habits, abuse your Internet connection
by sending this data to a third party, profile
your shopping preferences, hijack your browser
pages, and more.
How do I remove these pests?
Anonymizer Anti-Spyware Scanner does
not include a removal capability for pests, as
many pests change your registry settings, and
it would not be safe for us to undertake this
kind of activity on your PC while you are online.
If you are skilled enough to manually edit your
registry you may be able to remove it. A fully
licensed copy of Anti-Spyware will automatically
remove what Anti-Spyware Scanner has found.
How can I protect myself against pests
in the future?
You can run Anti-Spyware Scanner as often
as you wish in order to see what new unwanted
software has landed on your system. For a more
efficient solution, you may want to consider purchasing
a fully-licensed copy of Anonymizer Anti-Spyware,
or our other bundle options listed below.
