How to Setup Anonymizer Secure Tunneling with SecureCRT 3.x

This tutorial will show you how to set up SSH for use with the Anonymizer. SSH allows you to create an encrypted connection to the Anonymizer. This secure connection protects your online activities from monitoring by your Internet Service Provider or other intermediary.

Setting Up SecureCRT 3.x

(Available from http://www.vandyke.com/)

  1. Start the SecureCRT desktop program.
  2. A dialog box will appear and it will be titled either "Quick Connect" or "Session List." If it says "Quick Connect," close it and go to the "File" menu and select "Connect." A dialog box like the one below will appear.

  3. Click on the third button from the left. When you pass over it with your mouse it will say "New Session."

  4. Change Protocol to SSH1.
  5. Enter "cyberpass.net" for Hostname.
  6. The Port is 22.
  7. Set username to your Anonymizer username.
  8. Cipher should be "3DES".
  9. Make sure the "Authentication" option is set to Password.
  10. Check the "Save Session" box and uncheck "quick connect on startup."
  11. Click on the "Advanced" button.
  12. Check "Use single SSH Connection."
  13. Select the "Port Forwarding" tab.

  14. For Local Port enter "80"
  15. For Remote Hostname enter "cyberpass.net"
  16. For Remote Port enter "80"
  17. Click "Save."

    To create an encrypted, secure connection for mail:
  18. Click the "New" button.
  19. For Local Port enter "110".
  20. For Remote Hostname enter "mail.anonymizer.com".
  21. For Remote Port enter "110".
  22. Click "Save".
  23. Click the "New" button.
  24. For Local Port enter "25".
  25. For Remote Hostname enter "smtp.anonymizer.com" if we are your ISP. Otherwise, determine the SMTP (outgoing mail) server for you ISP and enter that.
  26. For Remote Port enter "25".
  27. Click "Save."

    To create an encrypted, secure connection for news:
  28. Click the New button.
  29. For Local Port enter 119.
  30. For Remote Hostname enter "Tnews.anonymizer.com" if we are your ISP, otherwise determine your ISP news server and enter it.
  31. For Remote Port enter 119.
  32. Click Save.
  33. Click OK twice.
  34. Check 'Show Dialog on Startup' box.
  35. Try connecting by pressing the connect button.
  36. A message will appear like below asking if you want to accept this key, click on the "Accept & Save" button.

  37. A dialog like the one below will appear prompting you for a password.

    Once you have a connection, a message like the one below should appear:


  38. In order to use the Anonymizer's SSH service, you must log into cyberpass.net before starting your web browsers or email/news clients.
