Macintosh OT / PPP
/ TCPIP instructions
- Change information in the PPP control panel.
The control panels reside in the Apple Menu.
- Open the PPP control panel, then:
Click "Registered User".
- Enter your Dial-up username in the "Name"
box. Use the Check Account Status page
to check your dial-up username after
you sign up.
- Enter your password in the "Password"
box. Check "Save password".
- Enter the phone number for your local area
in the "Number" box. Check the dial-up numbers list for the telephone
number local to you.
- Click Options. Choose the Protocol
section. Make sure "Allow error correction and compression in modem"
and "Use TCP header compression" are checked. Ensure "Connect
to a command line host" is not checked.
- Click OK, close the PPP control
panel, and save the changes.
- Change numbers in the TCP/IP Control Panel.
Open the TCP/IP control panel from control panels
in the Apple menu, it should read as either default or server assigned.
If it is not, then see if there is a setting for server assigned and choose
that option. If not, then set the following:
Connect via: PPP
Configure: using PPP server
Name server addresses: 216.34.245.2, 216.34.245.3
Search domains: leave this box blank
Try to connect to the Internet as normally.
Macintosh ConfigPPP/
FreePPP/ MacTCP instructions
This section covers setup on older Macintosh
systems using MacTCP. The instructions assume you use either the ConfigPPP
or FreePPP control panels to dial up to the Internet. If you don't, don't
know, or if you don't know what this means at all, you're better off providing
a postal address for the CD-rom.
- Change settings in the ConfigPPP or FreePPP
control panel. They both look the same. FreePPP is a newer version.
Check in the Control Panels (under the Apple Menu) for the one on your
Mac. Open this control panel, then do the following:
- Click Config. Write down the contents
of the "Modem Init" box. Click Done.
- Click New. Call the new setting "Anonymizer".
When finished, click Config.
- Port speed: 57600. Flow control:
"CTS & RTS (DTR)". Modem Init: what you just wrote down. Phone
num: look at this list to pick the correct phone number to dial for your
area code.
- Click Authentication. Auth I.D.: your
dial-up username code, which you can check by clicking through to this
page (https://www.infonex.com/anonymizer/namecheck.html). Password:
the password you selected when you signed up.
- Click OK. Click Done. Close
the Control Panel.
- Change some settings in the MacTCP control
panel. Open the MacTCP control panel, and make sure you have "PPP"
selected in the box of icons at the top. Click the "More..." button.
In the "Obtain Address" section, you must choose "Server".
If there is a setting for "default" or" "server assigned" in the "Domain
Name Server Information" section then choose that setting. Otherwise,
delete everything from the "Domain Name Server Information" section
and make it look like this:
Domain |
IP Address |
Default |
anonymizer.com |
216.34.245.2 |
(*) |
. |
216.34.245.3 |
( ) |
- Change nothing else in MacTCP. Click OK,
then close MacTCP. Restart your computer. When your computer restarts,
try connecting to the Internet as you usually do.
