Preferences allow you to select the features available for configuration.

1.  Username and Password

This allows users to enter information if you select “Auto Login”.

 

 

  1. Click on the “User Name and Password” button.
  2. Enter your User Name and Password in the fields.
  3. Click “OK”.

Launch and Exit Preferences

You can determine what Privacy Manager does when you start your computer, launch Privacy Manager, or exit from it.

 

 

2.  If Launch Privacy Manager at Windows Start Up

If you do not want to start Privacy Manager manually from the Windows Start menu, you can have Windows start Privacy Manager when Windows starts.

 

3.  Automatically Log In To Privacy Manager

When Privacy Manager is started, you can have it used your saved login information to automatically login to Anonymizer.

 

4.  Display Privacy Analyzer

This setting determines if the Privacy Analyzer is automatically visible when Privacy Manager launches.  You can also specify if the Privacy Analyzer should be on top of other windows on your desktop.

 

Privacy Analyzer provides a means of keeping track of privacy threats while using less screen space.  For more information please see the Main Help section and click on the Privacy Analyzer link.


 

5.  Wash System Before Quitting

Privacy Manager’s Washer (System Sweeper) will automatically clear all your privacy information when you exit the application.

Application Settings

You can configure certain aspects of the Privacy Manager application

 

 

6.  Auto Update

Anonymizer provides a list of recommended sites with Privacy Levels.  This list is periodically updated.  Privacy Manager can automatically download updates for you.  To be notified of an update, please select the “Prompt me before updating” option.

 

Please see the Per Site Privacy Levels section for more information on Anonymizer’s site privacy recommendations.

 

7.  Don’t Save Recent URLs

The Recent Sites list is optional.  If you do not want to have a list of recent sites listed in Privacy Statistics and Per Site Privacy Levels, check this option. 

 

Even if saved, Recent Sites are deleted when you quit Privacy Manager or reboot.

 

8.  Always Confirm Changes to My Settings

If this box is checked, Privacy Manager will ask for confirmation before changing any settings.  You will be asked if changes should be saved any time you change a Privacy Level or change the preferences on this page.

 

9.  Enable Sounds

Privacy Manager has sounds available to indicate threats detected.  If you want the sounds, check this box.

10.  Washer Preferences (Sweep System)

Privacy Manager includes the ability to remove private information from your computer after you are finished surfing the web.  The information is contained in files such as cookies, recently visited Web sites, temporary Internet files, and the URLs in your browser.

Beginner Mode

Clicking the “Wash” button remove Web bugs, cookies, Web browsing history, and more.

Advanced Mode

Unlike Beginner Mode, Advanced Mode gives you the ability to specify which files and information get cleared.  There are separate options available for Netscape and Internet Explorer.  The information includes

  • Cookies
  • Cookie Index Files (not for Netscape)
  • History of recently visited Web sites
  • Temporary Internet Files
  • URLs Saved in the Address Bar

 

There are advanced capabilities for managing cookies.  “Change Cookie Directory” gives you the ability to change the directory used to store your cookies.  “Protect Cookies” enables you to tell Privacy Manager which cookies should not be cleared when “Wash” is executed.
